Greystone GT are pleased to announce the arrival of a new driver in the team’s GT Cup line-up for the opening three rounds of the 2022 season.
American Ron Trenka will race a McLaren 570S GT4, carrying #80, in the GTH class alongside pro racer Jon Lancaster, who switches entries while his regular co-driver, Rich Mason, recovers from a recent medical procedure.
Ron, from New York, began driving high-performance cars on ice in 2018 and began racing in a GT4 McLaren at his local circuits, Watkins Glen and New Jersey Motorsports Park, with the Monticello Motor Club last year.
That led to a Pure McLaren GT Series outing at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA) in Austin, Texas, where he claimed a best finish of fourth in class with regular Greystone GT pro racer Jon as his co-driver.
The GT Cup opener at Donington Park on April 9-10 will be his UK racing debut and he will continue to race the car at both Brands Hatch and Snetterton.
Ron Trenka said: “I’m very excited to join Greystone GT for the GT Cup. They are a team with a great reputation and one I’m very happy to be invited to race. I’ve been driving a McLaren 570S GT4 for a couple of years, have built a great relationship with Jon [Lancaster] over the past few seasons and even raced with him at COTA last November, so from that side, I’m feeling good. But I’ve never even been to the tracks I’ll be racing at, so I’m trying to get as much simulator time as I can to make the learning curve a little less steep when I get there. I’ve been reading Niki Lauda’s book and all the tracks are referenced in there so it just adds an extra layer of ambition to race at them. I can’t wait.”
Mark McLoughlin, Team Principal, said: “I’m very pleased to welcome Ron to the team. Our whole philosophy revolves around taking trackday drivers with limited competitive experience and helping to mould them into strong racers with the help of our ultra-experienced pro racers, technicians and support staff, so this should fit perfectly to help him develop his skills in all areas of racing. I’d also like to wish Rich Mason a speedy recovery. He’s been a fantastic supporter of, and ambassador for Greystone GT and I look forward to welcoming him back when he returns.”
