McLaren Glasgow by Greystone GT will debut in the Pure McLaren GT Series this weekend at the Autdromo Internacional do Algarve in Portugal.
The triple-header event in Portimao marks the first time Silverstone-based Greystone GT will have competed in the series for identical McLaren 570S GT4s.
The car will be driven by Tim Whale, a former single-seater competitor who will be racing for the first time in 18 years, and who sampled the team’s McLaren in July at Donington Park.
The Silverstone-based team, founded late last year, became race winners in the UK-based GT Cup in August and are now expanding their racing portfolio to include their first overseas event.
The McLaren 570S GT4 will be raced by Tim Whale, who recently sampled the car at Donington Park.
The Pure McLaren GT Series pits identical 570S GT4 cars against each other in the ultimate one-make series for the British-built racing machine.
Cars are either run centrally by Pure McLaren or by customer teams affiliated to retailers, as is the case with McLaren Glasgow by Greystone GT.
Tim will race the car on Friday and Saturday, but does not plan to take part in the longer 45-minute event on Sunday.
Mark McLoughlin, Team Principal, said: “It’s incredibly exciting for Greystone GT to represent McLaren Glasgow in the Pure McLaren GT Series at Portimao and to be one of the first private race teams in the world to compete in the series with an official dealer. I’d like to thank the teams at Pure McLaren and at McLaren Glasgow for their support and hope that we can use this event to show the quality of performance that we have pushed for all year with our race team. Pure McLaren is a fantastic series to introduce McLaren owners to competitive racing action and to forge long-lasting relationships with one of the world’s most iconic automotive companies. It’s certainly a series we’re keen to be more involved with in the future as we continue to expand our race operation.”
