McLaren Glasgow by Greystone GT have entered the final round of the Pure McLaren GT Series this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin, USA.
The Texas triple-header marks the first event outside Europe for the young and ambitious team, who continue their rapid rise through the GT racing ranks.
The McLaren Glasgow by Greystone GT’s 570S GT4 will be driven in the Bruce McLaren Trophy by team regular Iain Campbell and his professional co-driver Oli Webb.
Iain, from Sandhurst, has been hugely impressive in his debut season of racing in 2021, taking four podium finishes with Oli in the largest and most hotly-contested class in the UK-based GT Cup.
Knutsford-based Oli has race experience at COTA in the FIA World Endurance Championship; his racing credentials also featuring a European Le Mans Series title, a Dubai 24 Hours victory and eight starts at the Le Mans 24 Hours.
Iain will drive the car in the two 25-minute Sprint races on Friday and Saturday while Oli will act as driver coach for the full weekend while also taking part in the 45-minute Endurance race on Sunday.
McLaren Glasgow by Greystone GT made a superb Pure McLaren debut in Portimao in September with Tim Whale winning on his return to racing after a near-20-year layoff.
A second car - a McLaren 720S GT3 - will be prepared and run by Greystone GT technicians during a number of non-competitive sessions throughout the COTA event.
The Pure McLaren GT Series pits identical 570S GT4 cars against each other in the ultimate one-make series for the British-built racing machine. Cars are either run centrally by Pure McLaren or by customer teams affiliated to retailers.
Iain Campbell said: “I can’t wait for the weekend. COTA has been a bucket-list track for a while so to have the chance to race there in the Pure McLaren GT Series is really exciting. I’ve had a brilliant experience in my first season of racing with Greystone GT, finished on the podium four times with Oli - who’s been a fantastic coach - and now we get the chance to close out the season on a massive high; representing McLaren Glasgow at one of the world’s great racetracks.”
Oli Webb said: “COTA is one of my favourite tracks, so I’m really excited to be going back there. I’ve never raced a GT car there, though I’ve done a couple of WEC events in prototypes and driven the McLaren Senna there in Pure McLaren before. I’m making sure I’m ready and prepared for the event. I’ll be there primarily coaching Iain, but also sharing the car in the endurance race. The event format is quite similar to GT Cup as pros like me can only do the enduros, so that experience will probably help both of us. It looks like a pretty healthy grid with a lot of competition, but if we keep doing what we’ve done recently, I’m sure we can battle for the podium.”
Mark McLoughlin, Team Principal, said: “We couldn’t have wished for a much better Pure McLaren debut than we had in Portugal and this is a big opportunity to build on the win for McLaren Glasgow by Greystone GT there. Iain’s made rapid progress in his debut season of racing with us in the GT Cup and now he has the chance to put everything he’s learnt into practice at a track he’s been itching to race on for a long time. After our victory last time out in Portugal, we’re very excited about what Iain and Oli could potentially achieve this weekend.”
